On Sunday, April 12, St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan became the setting of a special gathering of the Polish diaspora during the annual celebration in honor of Saint John Paul II, organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York. This event, a long-standing tradition within the Polish community calendar in New York, once again brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of Polish schools, community organizations, institutions, and the young generation of leaders.

The ceremony was attended by the Polish Youth Association, represented by members of its board and team. The delegation included: Jakub Staniewski - President of the Association, Isabelle Mazgaj - Vice President, Madeleine Mazgaj - Director of Programs, Amelia Piwowarczyk - Public Relations Manager, and Olivia Madejczyk - Operations Manager.

The presence of the Polish Youth Association highlighted the organization’s active and consistent engagement in the life of the Polish-American community in New York. The participation of young representatives in such important events constitutes a key element in building relationships, fostering inter-organizational cooperation, and enhancing the presence and recognition of the Polish diaspora in public life.
During the ceremony, Amelia Piwowarczyk and Madeleine Mazgaj had the honor of reading passages from the Holy Scripture, which served as a reflection of the active involvement of the younger generation in the life of the Polish community.

The event was also attended by Mateusz Sakowicz, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York. The Mass, organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland, has for years served as an important example of cooperation between Polish government institutions and diaspora organizations, strengthening dialogue and collaborative efforts in support of the Polish community abroad.
The ceremony was also attended by representatives of Polish schools, community organizations, and numerous delegations from Polish diaspora groups. Their presence gave the event a strong sense of community, emphasizing unity and engagement within the Polish diaspora. The strong presence of delegations from various organizations, along with broad community representation demonstrated a high level of integration within the Polish community on the East Coast.

The Mass in honor of Saint John Paul II at St. Patrick’s Cathedral has, for years, brought together the Polish community in New York as an expression of remembrance for one of the most important figures for Poland and the Polish diaspora. Saint John Paul II remains a symbol of unity, hope, and identity. Therefore, this event connects different generations, institutions, and organizations, creating a space for encounter, dialogue, and the building of a community based on memory and cooperation.
For the Polish Youth Association, participation in such important initiatives is a key part of its mission - strengthening the presence of young Poles in public life and actively contributing to the development of the Polish-American community. The organization’s presence at such events confirms that the younger generation not only preserves tradition but also actively co-creates it.
